Sheepfields Akbash Dogs, the seller, guarantees that the Akbash Dog purchased by the buyer will have a protective temperament at maturity (24-36 months), providing that the buyer raises the dog appropriately. What the dog protects will depend on the manner in which the dog was raised and is the responsibility of the buyer upon consultation with the seller.
The price for a good quality puppy is $750.00. Potential breeding quality puppies sell for $950.00. Our registry, Akbash Dogs International requires all puppies to be initially registered with either provisional breed quality or non breeding status.
The potential breeding quality puppies which have no major faults and are superior to most of their littermates when evaluated according to the breed standard at 7 weeks of age will be carefully placed in working settings with experienced, conscientious owners as potential breeding quality, initially registered "provisional" as ADI requires. The breeder will hold the dogs registration papers until the time they are upgraded and then the papers will be transferred to the owner.
The status may be upgraded at 2 years of age by the breeder after discussion with the owner, if the dog meets breeder and registry standards for breeding which include OFA or Penn hip certification. When OFA certified and evaluated by the breeder and the owner at two years of age and determined to be worthy of breeding status, the registration papers will be changed to breeding quality.
All puppies sold as non-breeding quality will be expected to be spayed or neutered by their owners by eight months of age. Registration papers will be held by the breeder until the owner shows proof of the dog being neutered.
If for any reason the new owner decides they would like to consider breeding a dog sold as non breeding quality, both the owner and the breeder can discuss this possibility. If it is agreed upon by both parties and the dog hip certifies, an additional $200 will be paid to the breeder and the dog will be upgraded to breed quality.
We would like people purchasing potential breeding quality puppies to keep in close contact with us so that we may help you evaluate your dog and any breeding matches that you consider. It is important to the future of the breed that only dedicated, responsible people become involved in breeding programs. People interested in breeding should have a good knowledge of the breed, its temperament, genetics, and have experience in successfully raising pups to working adults. They should also have a market for their pups before considering breeding as it often takes 10 months to accumulate nine or ten good qualified placements. Breeders must be willing to assist their buyers and be very selective about placing their own puppies. This is a large, sometimes difficult working breed that requires space and firm knowledgeable handling. Akbash Dogs should always be placed in situations which permit them to use their guarding ability. Those unable to provide adequate traditional work for the dog must be willing and able to provide alternatives. This is not a breed for the casual owner wanting only an amiable pet, but rather for the owner who understands the needs of a guardian dog. This is an athletic breed which may be difficult to contain, and owners must assume responsibility for protecting both the dog and innocent passerby with suitable fencing.
The seller will provide a dog or puppy to the buyer in healthy condition with current vaccinations, and will guarantee good health for two weeks after the sale. During that time, the buyer is to have the dog examined by a Veterinarian for full and complete health check. If it is determined that the dog is not physically fit as a livestock guardian, or as potential breeding quality if sold as such, the buyer is to return the dog to the seller immediately for a full refund of purchase price. This guarantee does not cover accidents, injuries or shipping costs. The buyer is responsible for providing proper veterinary care, vaccinations and nutrition to the dog thereafter.
The buyer agrees to notify the seller of any medical conditions, which may be heritable so that the seller can monitor and adjust their breeding program.
1. Hip dysplasia resulting in clinical symptoms requiring corrective surgery by two years of age.
2. Extreme shyness or absence of protective behavior.
1. OFA rating below "fair"
2. Entropion, or any heritable eye conditions
3. Distinctly over or under shot bite
4. Undescended testicle(s)
5. Extreme shyness or absence of protective behavior
The buyer agrees not to sell nor give away an Akbash Dog to any individual or organizational representative who is not willing to enter into an agreement similar to the one outlined above. As responsible breeders we don't want any of our dogs in shelters, so if tragedy should befall an owner or a dog does not live up to its performance expectations we reserve the right to be notified first, so that we can take the dog back or assist in placing the dog in another qualified home. I have read and understand the above agreement and will abide by it.
